Collaborations
In their evaluations, many students over the years have stated that their favorite part of the day is working with author young artists. For many students, this is the first time they’ve been surrounded by kids who love to write and create art. The enthusiasm is contagious. The state-wide Wisconsin Writes is a unique event in that students and teachers from across the state collaborate for one purpose: to create the stories and art to fill a book. The students work in grade-level groups of ten. They tour the art museum searching for how it relates to their lives (see the video on the home page). They write first drafts and share them with their group. Friendships quickly develop as students encourage each other by offering constructive ways to improve the stories and sketches.
